1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
a. | promote, support, and model creative and innovative thinking and inventiveness. |
b. | engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources. |
c. | promote student reflection using collaborative tools to reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes. |
d. | model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, colleagues, and others in face-to-face and virtual environments. |
This standard targets the creativity portion of using technology. There are so many things that can be done using technology that the possibilities are endless. There are creative ways to use technology such as virtual tours for those who have little background knowledge. Students are able to explore content that would never be attainable without technology. Students are interested in the use of technology so this is a great tool to use to get students interested in lessons and excited to participate. The blog that we had to create shows a little bit of my creativity using the layout and colors as well as my knowledge of certain subjects. It also shows a little bit about me and makes it personal. Through this blog we are able to communicate with other students and colleagues in a virtual environment to gain ideas and information from one another. Photostory is another assignment that is included in this standard. I used digital pictures and creative ways to change the appearance of pictures to place in a video. We used real life concepts and events to make our videos as well as true information for a learning resource. To finish this project, we had to think, plan, and creatively process. The online quiz required inventiveness using tools and resources. Other artifacts that are included in this NETS standard are concept mapping and assistive technology assignments. Both included knowledge of content as well as a great deal of creativity to make it engaging and appealing to make it easier for students to learn. Creativity includes the use of materials that can be useful for those with disabilities as well.
The virtual tour idea is a great one. Because most schools in Mississippi do not have the funds to take the students everywhere the teachers would like to take them, virtual tours come in handy. They may not give the same effect as actually being there, but they are the next best thing.
ReplyDeleteYou made a lot of good points in your reflection. The blog is a great way to show creativity during lessons and expressing your experience in teaching and technology. The photostory is another good example. You are very creative and will use this in your teaching strategies.
ReplyDeleteYou and I seem to think alot alike. I think the virtual tool is a great way to bring the outside world to students who may not otherwise be able to see it.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the points you made, the blog is a gret way to show creativity during lessons.
ReplyDeleteCreativity plays an important part of teaching. We had practice with this standard by creating our own website and blog. I think the youtube video showed us how to be creative the most.
